Yarmouth 23 Gaff Cutter “Size matters not . . . Small can be exceptionally seaworthy”

On Deck

All controls can be led aft to a safe, spacious and dry sheltered cockpit, with seating for six and a very useful aft deck. Good roomy lockers under the seats provide space for everything you might need on deck, including space for a valise liferaft.

The side decks are unusually wide and safe for a boat of such size, a favourite sunbathing spot too, leading to the deep bow well, which provides safety and comfort for crew working forward, as well as a nice place to sit and watch the world sailing by.

On deck, every horizontal surface is clad in beautiful Ceylon teak, sealed for easy care, or left untreated to owner?s preference. As well as providing good safe foothold, the visual effect is simply stunning and gains admiring glances from everyone who walks by in the marina.

Below the Yarmouth 23 has been described as something of a ?Tardis?, with an amazingly roomy layout, over 6ft of headroom beneath the main hatch. There four good berths. The forward berths are 6ft 4 inch, while the berths in the main saloon with foot extensions under the forward berths are 6ft.The private small and cosy heads are functional, with sea toilet, shower and small basin.

In the galley there is a sink or optional inset sink/hob unit, with plate and cutlery storage behind. Other options include a standard gas hob with grill, or a  hot water system.

But she is much more than a pretty face, she is a very seaworthy boat too, capable of handling conditions that would keep many boats tucked up the marina. No better boat test than the cross-Biscay and the single handed Atlantic crossing to Brazil by one of our Yarmouth owners

Gordon Wyatt and David Freeman, designers of the renowned Fisher Class of motor sailers, have excelled themselves with the Yarmouth 23. She is an exceptionally strong, superbly finished, long keeled, traditional  gaff-rigged cutter.

The gaff rig with a bowsprit lets you fly plenty of sail while keeping the centre of effort low, and the cutter rig provides a choice of sail combinations to suit the conditions.. Performing well downwind and to windward, Jib and staysail  are both furling, while the main is slab reefed with lazy jacks, the boom coming to rest on a clever stainless steel boom crutch system. A topsail and spar is available as an option, great for an extra boost in light airs, and looks oh so pretty!
